5 tips to boost your Autumn productivity

Posted on 1 October, 2026 by Lyndsey Segal in Business Coaching, Professional Coaching

As the leaves turn golden and the air becomes crisp, Autumn offers an opportunity to reset, refocus and reignite your productivity.

As we enter the final quarter of the year, here are 5 top tips to boost your productivity this Autumn.

1. Set new goals

October offers a natural checkpoint to review the first three quarters of the year and recalibrate for the final stretch.

Setting new goals helps to create a sense of direction and can improve focus and motivation towards reaching your goals.

Start by asking yourself what you want the next few months to look like. Do you want to finish a project you’ve been putting off? Build a new habit? Improve focus during your workday?

Write these goals down, and make them specific. “Be more productive” is vague and hard to act on. “Finish the first draft of my report by October 15th” gives you something concrete to work toward.

2. Create an action plan

Try working backward from your goal. if you want to complete something by a certain date, what needs to happen each week, or even each day, to get there?

Breaking big objectives into smaller tasks makes them feel less overwhelming and easier to start. Revisit your plan weekly and adjust as needed.

3. Protect your Power Hours

There are only a few hours in the day when your attention levels are at their highest. These are your Power Hours.

Use your Power Hours for your most important tasks and your less productive times for tackling easy or quick-to-complete tasks.

Remove distractions and avoid interruptions during these times.

4. Maximise natural light

Sunlight helps regulate your circadian rhythm, boosts mood, and can significantly affect energy levels and focus. With daylight hours decreasing, it is important to maximise natural light in your workspace.

Position your workspace near a window to take advantage of the sunlight.

Take a morning walk. Exposure to natural light early in the day helps set your internal clock and can improve alertness for hours afterward.

Schedule outdoor breaks. A short walk outside during a midday slump can do more for your focus than another cup of coffee.

Small adjustments like these can make a noticeable difference in how alert and motivated you feel throughout the day.

5. Stay active

Exercise increases blood flow to the brain, reduces stress, and improves concentration, all of which directly support your ability to get things done.

Try to incorporate regular exercise into your daily schedule – before, during and after your working day.

Take your workouts outside. A brisk walk, jog, or bike ride in crisp autumn air can boost energy more than an indoor gym session.

Build movement into your workday. Short stretch breaks or a quick walk between tasks can prevent the afternoon slump and keep your mind sharp.

Even 20–30 minutes of movement a day can have a measurable impact on focus, mood, and overall productivity.

By embracing the unique qualities of autumn and implementing these five top tips, you can boost your Autumn productivity and make the most of this transformative season.
