5 ways to get back to business this September

Posted on 6 September, 2021 by Lyndsey Segal in Business Coaching

There’s something about September that always feels like a fresh start, a new beginning and for many, a time to get back to business after the summer break.

Whether you are returning to the office, continuing to work from home or hybrid working, planning how to use the remaining quarter of the year will help us to face the final sprint to 2021 with clarity and focus and achieve our business goals.

Here are 5 ways to help you get back to business this September:

1. Gain clarity

“Many people think they lack motivation when what they really lack is clarity.”

James Clear, Entrepreneur and Author

Whether you are thinking about the next steps of your business or how to get a new idea off the ground, gaining clarity of what you want to do, how you are going to do it and by when are the starting points. This will help to plan and execute your next steps with focus, motivation and confidence.

2. Set goals

September is a great month to re-evaluate your business goals and if necessary, adjust or set new business goals for the remainder of the year.

Think about why the goals are important to you and the difference their outcomes will make to you and your business.

Make sure your goals are S-M-A-R-T (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound).

3. Create an action plan

“A goal without a plan is just a dream.” Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

Breaking down goals into small, achievable targets with a specific timescale will help keep you focused and motivated.

Writing down your goals, keeping them visible and sharing them with others holds us accountable and helps us to achieve our goals.

Remember to celebrate your victories as you reach milestones along the way!

4. Update your website

September is a good time of the year to review your website and check the content reflects your current business offering and it is consistent with your branding and marketing.

  • Does your website clearly show your core (or new) products and service and how you help?
  • Is it intuitive and easy to navigate around?
  • Is it easy for customers to book or buy from you?

5. Manage your time effectively

Everyone has the same 24 hours in the day. However, what we get out of those 24 hours depends on how we spend them. Effective daily and weekly planning in line with your business goals and prioritising tasks are key.

Good time management also reduces stress and overwhelm, which helps to handle the demands of our business better.

With the last quarter of the year remaining, September is a great time to ask what else we want to achieve in our businesses and navigate the route to achieving them. Gaining clarity, setting goals, creating an action plan, updating your website and managing your time effectively will help you get back to business and be more productive this September.
