Could September be a new start for your career?

Posted on 1 September, 2018 by Lyndsey Segal in Business Coaching

I love September! The last remaining days of summer…the light evenings…the transition into autumn and I particularly love the ‘new academic year’ landmark that September brings.

The ‘fresh start’ of a new school year in September has become an ingrained milestone in our lives, long after our school days have passed. It still feels a time for new beginnings and new opportunities….

Goal setting September is a great month to reflect on our accomplishments from the year so far and set future goals. In many ways, I prefer it to January. There sometimes feels an artificiality and pressure to set New Year’s Resolutions because it is a new calendar year. With only 8% of people actually sticking to their New Year’s Resolutions,

September is a more realistic time to think about creating and sustaining positive changes in our professional lives.

With the last third of the year remaining, what else do we want to achieve in our career or business to finish the year on a high? Perhaps goal setting for this last leg of the calendar year may actually help set more realistic and sustainable goals and New Year’s Resolutions for the following year….

Parents’ goals While parents help prepare and support their children’s return to nursery, school, college or University for their new beginnings, it’s a great time for parents to reflect on their own goals, their new beginnings. Those who have taken a career break to look after their children may view September as a time to map out their return to work route, consider a career change or start a business or side business.
