Blogging plays a significant part in increasing traffic to your website, engagement with your audience and promoting your business.

If you want to start blogging or reenergise your blog for your career or small business, it can be difficult to know how or where to start.

These five top tips will be sure to help you on your way. If you would like to learn more tips on blogging for your business, you can attend December’s Networking and Coaching Event this Thursday, 6th December: Blogging To Boost Your Business

1) Know your audience – who am I writing for?

Have your target audience and their needs in mind when creating content for your blog.

  • What content will resonate with them?
  • What problems and challenges do they have and what solutions can I offer them?
  • What value can I help them achieve?

Using the right key words and key phrases are crucial for bringing the right audience to your website and offers a great opportunity to engage with your current and potential audience. The keywords must resonate with your audience and solve their problems.

2) Structure your blog

Write a compelling blog article which has a great hook at the beginning, which leads into a good story and ends with strong actions.

Choose a strong title Remember to use your focus key word in the title.

Use a title that will entice your audience to read more or help them to solve a problem. What might your audience be searching for?

Popular titles are how to… numbered e.g. 5 ways to… using a question such as can….

3) Use a call to action

You want to create engagement with your reader and spur them into action. This is why it’s good to have a strong call to action prominently at the beginning and end of your blog article.

Examples of call to actions could be:

  • Show the benefits of your product or service and how to buy it.
  • Attend your event.
  • Comment on your blog.
  • Subscribe to your blog or newsletter.
  • Visit a specific page of your website.

4)  Boost your SEO

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a way of improving your blog posts so they are easier to find.

If your blog is on WordPress, install the Yoast SEO plugin. This helps you to use your keywords more effectively.

Google has its own free tool for finding out which keywords people are using called Adwords Keyword Planner. This allows you to search for words and phrases and see how many people on average are searching for these words. It will also provide you with other related keywords and phrases.

5) Promote your blog with pride

Send an email to your email list telling them your new blog is available and what to expect from it or add it to your monthly newsletter.

  • Promote your blog on all your social media platforms.
  • Link to your blog in your social media bios.
  • Use hashtags to match the key word(s) of your blog.
  • Publish your blog on Medium which is a great place to reach a bigger audience and read other blogs.

Hopefully these five tips will help to improve your business blog, increase traffic to your website, engagement with your audience and promote your business.
