6 easy way to improve social media for your business

Posted on 1 April, 2019 by Lyndsey Segal in Business Coaching

Whether you are a start-up or established small business owner, having an effective social media strategy can be an enormous asset, but where do you start?!

Breaking it down into who, which, what, when, why and how can help to reduce overwhelm and achieve greater clarity of how to promote your business.

Who Knowing who your target audience is – your existing and potential clients and customers – is a great starting point, otherwise you run the risk of shouting into an empty room!

Creating a client/customer profile or audience personas can help to define your audience and reach them.

Which Certain platforms tend to work better for certain sectors or markets so be selective. Focus on crafting great content for the platform(s) most relevant to your business.

What Interesting, relevant and engaging content is key to promoting your business online. Before posting, think:

  • Do your posts reflect your brand?
  • Does the tone of voice match your brand?
  • Are you adding value for your audience?
  • Is it focused on your potential customers’ needs?

When It’s important to be visible and keep your audience interested and engaged online. Being consistent with how active you are and how often you post will demonstrate your reliability, credibility and help your followers build and maintain trust in your brand. Think about:

  • how many times a week/month you want to post
  • When are the optimal times and days of the week to post?
  • When is your audience most active?

Why “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.” Simon Sinek

I love this quote!

Social media enables you to express your passion, your story, your inspiration and motivation behind why you do what you do and how it can be of benefit to others.

Always think about the value you are adding to your audience.

Before posting, ask yourself:

  • “Is this helpful?”
  • “What value am I adding?”
  • “Is this relevant to my clients/customers’ needs?

How How can you use social media to best showcase your business?

How can you help, inspire, support, empower, educate your audience?

If your posts are the shop window to your business, what would passers-by see and experience?

How could you tempt them inside to find out more?

How can you further engage with them and encourage them to buy from you?

Final thoughts One of the greatest strengths of social media is it enables you to engage in a dialogue with your audience so they can build a connection to your brand. This is what makes social media social. Listening to your audience is as important as speaking to them. Social media is an effective way to promote and grow your business but should support and supplement your overall marketing strategy.
