What exactly is Personal and Professional Coaching?

Whilst organising my recent networking and Coaching coffee morning ‘Transform Your Business Profile’, it encouraged me to reflect on my personal branding and make some positive changes. I’d like to share these with you, to explain more about my role as a Personal and Professional Coach.

1:1 Coaching

I work with professional men and women who want to find solutions and positive outcomes in their careers and businesses, while aligning them with their personal lives. By exploring both personal and professional fields, I differentiate myself from Life Coaches or Business Coaches. I take a more holistic view when working with my clients because humans are complex creatures.

What is happening in our personal lives inevitably has an impact on our professional lives and vice versa.

It is the interrelationship, the bridge between these two domains that particularly interests me and is significant for my clients.

Popular areas of focus that clients want to work on include:

  • business start-ups
  • growing an existing business
  • career development and direction
  • career change
  • returning to work (after a career break or becoming a Mum),
  • confidence
  • communication
  • presentation and interview skills,
  • work-life balance
  • time management

These areas all have a significant impact on our professional AND our personal lives, sometimes in obvious ways, other times subtly or even subconsciously. Sometimes deeper issues arise during Coaching. These could be issues the clients were not consciously aware of. By giving themselves time and space to focus on their own life (often for the first time in years) it encourages these issues to emerge. Once that happens, positive changes can be made.

Our emotional state greatly affects our professional performance. These can’t be overlooked when aspiring for professional success.

Some examples of these include:

  • stress
  • confidence
  • procrastination
  • relationship difficulties
  • presentation nerves
  • overwhelm
  • guilt
  • lack of work-life balance
  • loss of direction

Group Coaching and Networking

In trying to bring its benefits to more people, I have founded a networking group with a difference. I wanted to create a friendly, supportive environment where Entrepreneurs, freelancers and small business owners could meet, connect, grow and collaborate. The Facebook group Networking and Coaching Brighton and Hove is aimed at self-employed people in Brighton and Hove. It offers support, networking and collaborating opportunities.

I also organise monthly networking and Coaching coffee mornings where people that live or work in Brighton and Hove can network in person, spread the word about their businesses, meet potential clients and receive group Coaching from me to further their personal and professional development (often difficult when you’re self-employed).

The next networking and Coaching coffee morning ‘Develop your business action plan for success’  is on Thursday, 24th May 10am-12pm at Six in Hove https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/networking-event-develop-your-business-action-plan-for-success-tickets-44523759764

Team Coaching

Organisations or teams also experience similar issues where personality or personal issues can affect professional performance and the teams effective functioning. Coaching workshops can help businesses and organisations incorporate the benefits of Coaching into their professional roles and everyday conversations. This helps to increase the communication, performance and productivity in teams and promote staff wellbeing. Bespoke Coaching sessions help employees work individually or collaboratively on their and their teams’ goals. If staff are happy, feel listened to, valued and supported, they will perform better in their jobs.

We all need to keep emotionally healthy if we want to be effective professionally.

Success is about our overall well-being and how we can create and sustain balance and harmony within it. I feel passionately about helping people achieve great things in their personal and professional lives, without compromising one for the other. I hope this overview of personal and professional Coaching and how they are connected gives you inspiration to bring these benefits into your own life.
