5 ways to invest in your wellbeing and boost your productivity
In today’s fast-paced world, time management and productivity skills have become increasingly essential for our wellbeing and vice versa, helping us to live and work more happily, healthily and sustainably.
We must invest in and prioritise our physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing to do our best work and have the time and energy for the things that matter outside of work.
Here are 5 ways to invest in your wellbeing and boost your productivity:
1. Get moving
Movement enhances our focus, memory and creativity.
Taking a walk before work will help to set you up for the day and make the transition between home and work.
Doing some simple stretches at your desk – in between meetings or between tasks is hugely beneficial to your physical as well as your mental health.
Exercising during lunchtime or after work are good de-stressors and helps you to switch off.
2. Manage stress
It is impossible to eliminate stress from our daily lives but learning effective strategies to manage and reduce stress is essential.
This can be through meditation, mindfulness, yoga, exercise, walking in nature, hobbies, spending time with loved ones or anything that helps you to relax and unwind.
3. Take breaks
Breaks help to:
- Restore focus and attention
- Consolidate memory and learning
- Boost creativity and productivity
- Reduce stress
Remember to have breaks away from your screen for a few minutes every hour and get away from your desk at lunchtime.
Build a combination of micro-breaks, moving breaks, nature breaks and social breaks into each day.
4. Create me time
This is time that is just yours, to do what you want with, whether that’s being in nature, meeting friends, reading a book, or listening to music. This helps to create distance away from work and recharge your batteries.
Me time can also be in the work environment, where you set boundaries for when you are available and when you are not available, which will also help reduce interruptions and distractions.
5. Rest to rejuvenate
Rest is an essential part of managing your attention, energy and wellbeing.
Factor in times to rest in your day, just as you would your meetings, lunch break or collecting your kids from school.
Write down little rituals of rest that you can turn to at different points in your day or whenever the need arises.
Investing in and prioritising your wellbeing will help to create positive and productive working environments, where individuals and organisations can thrive.
